From the President (August 2026)

Dear Fellow Braddock District Council Members,

Scouting taught me many lessons when I was a kid, and the motto “be prepared” stuck with me all these years. My primary focus back then was to make sure I remembered to pack all the right gear for a campout.  Nowadays my focus is on the wellbeing of my family and community.  How prepared are we for unforeseen emergencies?  Recently we experienced a microburst storm in Burke, and just two days ago there was a gas line rupture along Ox Road that resulted in the evacuation of nearby businesses and a school.  

One of the ways we can be prepared is to learn from experts in the field. Courtney Arroyo from the Fairfax County Department of Emergency Management and Security (DEMS) will be joining us on September 16th. Come find out how you and your community can prepare for whatever curveballs life throws at us.

We would like to welcome Aaron J. Yohai as our new staff liaison.  Aaron is the Deputy Chief of Staff for Supervisor Sizemore Heizer, and we look forward to working closely with him.
